What the score actually means
Most checkers advertise an accuracy figure and never show their working. These are the documents we ran through ours and what each one came back with.
A published article
Pasted straight from a live industry publication. Twenty-five passages verified word for word at their source.
An original draft
Written for the test and never published. One phrase matched, common enough to appear on three unrelated sites.
A second original draft
Different subject, uploaded as a Word document. Ordinary English constructions accounted for everything found.
An original Bengali draft
Twenty-four searches returned something. Not one could be verified at its source, so not one was scored.
Original work lands near zero, copied work lands high, and the distance between them is the whole point. Every match is labelled confirmed or unconfirmed: a phrase is only scored once it has been found in the source itself, not merely in a list of results. Read the full method.
It reads the script
you actually wrote in.
Most checkers treat anything outside the Latin alphabet as a rounding error. Strip the vowel marks from a Bengali word and you are left with bare consonants that match almost any text — which is how a checker returns a frightening score on a thesis nobody has ever seen.
Combining marks are kept with the letters they belong to, and phrase length adapts to the script: nine words in English, longer in Bengali and Hindi, character-based for Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Thai.

Questions
What score is too high?
There is no universal threshold. Institutions set their own, commonly somewhere between 10% and 20%, and many look at the pattern rather than the number.
In our own testing, original work landed between 0% and 3.3%. If you are well above that and the matches are confirmed and clustered in the same passages, read those paragraphs. If you are above it because of quotations and a reference list, that is expected — and both are excluded by default.
What is the difference between a confirmed and an unconfirmed match?
A search engine will happily return results for a phrase that appears nowhere on the pages it gives back. A checker that counts those results inflates every score.
So each phrase is checked twice: once against the web, then against the page itself. Only a phrase found in the source is confirmed and counted toward your score. Anything else is shown to you but scored as nothing, labelled so you can judge it yourself.
Can it check against my university's submission archive?
No, and neither can any tool outside that system. Those archives are private to the institution that runs them.
What this checks is the public web: pages, news, blogs, open-access journals and repositories, and indexed PDFs. If your work is graded through a university system, use this before you submit, not instead of submitting.
What happens to my document after the check?
It is stored with the report so you can open it again later, and it is not used for anything else. Delete the report and the stored text goes with it.
You can also share a single report by link, which lets a supervisor read it without an account and without seeing anything else of yours.
How long does a check take?
Around a minute for a short piece and a little longer for a full chapter, because each phrase is searched separately and then verified at the source.
It runs on our side rather than in your browser, so you can close the tab and come back — the report will be waiting.
How does the free trial work?
You enter card details but nothing is taken. The trial gives you 20 credits — about 5,000 words — and runs for 7 days. Cancel from your account page before it ends and you are charged nothing at all.
If you let it run, your card is charged $10.00 on the day the trial ends and your credits go up to 100 for the month. We email you before that happens, with the date, so it is never a surprise.
Card details are taken when the trial starts so that it can continue without interruption if you decide to keep it. The trial takes card only, and one free trial per card.
